BELLES & WHISTELS GUEST DESIGN SPOT 2 - 'Use Earthy Colours'

Hi all & I need to start with a quick appology, as I should have posted on Monday. However I'm having major internet troubles at the mo & can't get on it at mine, so am having to use my Mum & Dads (they do come in handy so!). Anyhow glad to finally be able to post & my sincere appologies for the lateness.
This firtnights fab challenge over at the Belles & Whistles challenge blog is 'Use Earthy Colours', which I have to say on the face of it I didn't think was going to suit me, as I'm a definate 'pastel' girl! However I dug out some old 12x12's I've had for years & have to say am lovin' the results. Thats the whole reason why these challenges are so great, as when you're forced out of your comfort zone into something you wouldn't usually do, the results can be great & I think it can really enhance your crafting! So without further ramblings...here's my project...
Photobucket
...I've used a Papermania brown paper bag & decorated it with 'Mia' celloection papers by Crate Paper, which have lovely earthy shades of brown, beige, red, green & plum. I've gone for my usual shabby style & the colour scheme gives it a bit of a vintage look too. I've created a distressed look by inking edges with Walnut Satin & white paint. I've then used some coreogated card from an old box, cheese cloth, twine & an old jeans button to further add to that authentic, vintagy feel...
Photobucket
...This is actually a Whiff of Joy stamp, but still drawn by Elisabeth Bell who's the B&W artist. LOVE her work!!! How fab does this image look, coloured with Distress Inks in deep reds, greens & neuterals to match the collection?!!..
Photobucket
...Flowers are from Wild Orchid crafts & have also been distressed with white paint...
Photobucket
...(above) I've made a bit of a feature on the handle using twine, seam binding, flowers & large vintage button toed with twine. (below) See the lovely large gold butterfly charm hanging from twine...

...Here's what the back looks like, I've added my signature stamp & 2 Martha Stewart Classic Butterflies...

Just Magnolia - New Design Team member!

Hi all! & today I'm really excited to be posting for a new design team I'm on at Just Magnolia. I love my Magnolia stamps at the moment - their collections seem to be going from strength to strength & each one I love more then the last! Can't wait to see what they'll bring out for 2012 & the Just Magnolia blog showcases this brand excellently. So be sure to pop over using the link above & see the creations from the rest of the talented design team...
...This weeks fab challenge is to use 'White plus one other colour' & each design team member seems to have chosen a different colour to work with - so there's a great collection of inspiration just waiting for you! Let's hope it gets your creative juices flowing...what colour will you choose? When you've decided be sure to show us your entry to be in with a chance of winning one of 2 great prizes including a £10.00 voucher from Dies to Die for, or a fab offering from Letraset who make Pro-Markers. So without further ado, here's my card...

Photobucket

...I chose purple (obviously!) & this was actually a great challenge for me as I use a lot of white on my cards anyway. I went for my usual shabby style & winter theme. The beautiful papers are also by Magnolia from the Christmas Dreams collection. The edges have been inked with Walnut Satin then distressewd with a craft knife...

Photobucket

...This gorgeous little cutie is 'Winter Tilda' from the new 'Christmas Dreams '11' collection & I think she looks great in these vibrant shades of plumy purple! I've coloured her as usual with Distress Inks, then highlighted with Glamour Dust on the hat & boots & white flock on the furry bits!...

Photobucket

...Lovin' my new Marriane Design die that makes these great little spiral flowers. I used to make them myself, but with the die you tend to get a much more professional looking finish. I've also added some 8ml lilac purles to the centers & distressed with white paint. The small white roses are fabric & have been set with real Sworofski crystals. The magnolia die is Heart Swirl Branch, I've cut from white Bazzil card-stock & I think it's by far the prettiest swirl die on the market at the mo - lovin' it!!! I've also added a Stamps Away postage X-mas stamp...

Whiff of Joy Handmade card-stock Bag

For my second post today I have another handmade bag, this time I've used one of my all time favourite stamps by Elisabeth Bell that hasn't seen ink for FAR too long! However I love that cause now I'm all excited about it & can't wait to use it again - like it's a new stamp! Such a classic & gorgeous image...

Photobucket

...Stunning papers are also a collection I've had for ages & forgot just how much I love them! Its the Shabby Chique collection by Tim Holtz & comes in lovely muted shades of pink's, blue's & grey's. I've used a label shaped 'Get in Shape' template to make the front & back of the bag, which has been cut using the largest size from Bazzil card-stock & decorated using the next size down with designer papers. I've then created a middle section approx 1 1/2" thick with flaps either side to join the 2 pieces together. The insides have all been decorated with the same designer paper collection too. Edges have been inked with Weathered Wood & distressed with craft knife.Lastly the handle has been cut with Martha Stewart Doily Lace edges punch & attached to either side. Here's a closer look...

Photobucket

...This absolutely stunning image is 'Melinda Blowing Kisses' from the Guardian Angel collection by Whiff of Joy & drawn by one of my fave artists Elisabeth Bell, who's images I think are actually THEE best drawn stamps on the market. They all have a simelar look to them and are pretty & sweet in an oldy worldy kind of way and lend themselves perfectly to a shbby chique style...

Photobucket

...She has been coloured with Distress Inks which match the pink, blue & grey colours of the paper EXACTLY as they're both Tim Holtz products. Top, headbands & hearts are Spun Sugar with Pumice Stone shading, Jeans are Tumbled Glass & Weathered Wood with Pumice Stone shading & wings are Pumice Stone. Glitter highlights are Crystal Glamour Dust & you need to see in real to appreciate just how much this glittle sparkles!...

Photobucket

...Large blue rose & small wild grey rose are from Wild Orchid Crafts, I teamed with some lovely pink glittered leaves & white fabric roses which have recently been given to me. Also Doo Hickey Heart Swirl Branch Die cut & pins finish the look. Also notice white lace & just in view cute little silver heart charm distressed with white paint just hiding under the blue rose! Below shows lovely large blue flower (also from WOC) with some distressed pink organza ribbon & blue flower sprays that hang down from the handle...

Photobucket

...Other side of handle decorated with more white fabric roses. LOVE these at the mo - will defo have to find out where they are from & get some more! I've distressed with white paint & finished with Swarofski crystals...

Photobucket

Below shows the back with my signature stamp & 2 punched Classic Butterflies by Martha Stewart cut from Bazzil Card-stock...

Magnolia Altered Art porject - Wooden Box - 'Ice Tilda'

I've been into making items other than cards recently & really enjoyed doing these little boxes. Today I have a wooden one, that was just so fun to make. The box along with a whole host of other Altered Art items is available from the Craft Barn. Here's what I did...

Photobucket

...The beautiful papers are 12x12 sheets by Magnolia from the new Christmas Dreams collection. I used 'Vintage Hellebores' for the outside, and Vintage Holly for the insides in these warm plumy purple shades. Perfect for a Winter feel & fitting for a Christmas decoration/gift or Winter Birthday gift alike - great for any little (or big) girls too!. .The edges have been inked first with 'Mulled Lavender', then with Dusty Concord' using a blending tool, then 'Walnut Satin' applied straight from pad just on the edges to give a gradual shaded effect. Here's a closer look...

Photobucket

...The magnolia image is also from the new Christmas Dreams collection & is definately my fave mag stamp at the mo! porobably cause my little girl has been going Ice Sketing for several months now & actually she just moved up to level 3 last Sunday - Congratulations Mia - You are a little Star!!! Anyhow we digress - this cutie is 'Ice Tilda' & I can't wait till Mia has these kinds of skaing costumes - at the moment shes all wrapped up in coats, hat & scalfs etc. But she's allready got the white shoes which just look too cute in tiny sizes - she's the smallest & youngst in her class so looks really sweet just like Tilda!...

...I'm really pleased with my colouring here (if I do say so myself!) Love these purples & I think it's the first time I've coloured mono shades in purple with my Distress Inks - so effective! I've applied white flock to the 'fluufy' bits, such as mitten warmer, socks & ear-muffs. The heart & Ice Skates have Glossy Accents & this looks fab in real (not really picked up by camera) Lastly I've hughlighted the headband, hair bobble, heart edges & dotted the costume to create a sequine effect with Crystal Glamour Dust which REA:LLY sparkles in real when it catches the light & really does look very pretty especially at night time under the warmth of artificial light. Oh I've also added some white dots to highlight which I usually do to create a 'sparkly' look...

...Above shows the back where you can see I've added a small Cuttle bug tag with silver brads. The ribbon started out white & I've sprayed with purple micas, then attached all the way round the sides of the box & tied in bow at the front (see below), where I've then added a double thread bow tied through lilac heart button finished with Sworofski Crystal. I've also decorated the sides of the box with a Magnolia Doo Hickey die 'Heart Swirl Branch' LOVE this die - its my new purchase & just can't get enough of it at the mo!.I've cut from white Bazzil card-stock & cut out & attached different sections all the way round...

Photobucket

...The box itself has been firsty painted with 3 coats of lilac acrylic paint, then 'washed' with watered down white acrylic applied with hard dried bristle brush to give shabby washed out effect. Below you can see the flower arrangement including more Doo Hickey Heart Swirl Branch die cuts, white fabric roses set with Sworofski Crystals, lilac flower with pearl spray & silver heart charm, all distressed with white paint & sat on cheese cloth to further add to shabby effect...

...Here's the inside of the box, decorated in deep purple papers with my signature stamp...

Photobucket

...For the Sparkle element I've highlighted the images & papers with Crystal Glamour Dust & added Crackle paint to the white flowers & Tim Holtz grunge board die cut brakets, which doesn't show up much on the photos but gives a broken glass effect that really sparkles when it catches the light...

...This simply gorgeous & somewhat understated but classy & extreemly effective image is 'Patches & Braides' from the Sweet Art Girls 2 collection & looks fantastic in these soft pastel shades I've crated using Distress Inks, which are just perfect for these kinds of colour schemes...

Photobucket

...Beautiful mullberry paper flowers are by Wild Orchid Crafts, the handmade paper spiral flowers have been created usign Marriane Design die in papers from the collection...
